it was originally recorded summer 1969 and planned for a full release, but it never happened, until now! one of the most exciting norwegian releases this year.
egil monn-iversen nearly perfect score borrows elements from john barrry and lalo schifrin soundtrack music, the opening theme song, sung by inger lise rypdal sounds like it could be a norwegian bond movie theme! key players are hired in from the late 60’s norwegian jazz-scene and you can hear early talents like jan garbarek and terje rypdal in full bloom! the result is a vivid soundtrack that could rank up with any good 60s 70s european groovy soundtrack score!

mark rae is the man behind one of the key uk music movements of the last 25 years. as a founder of the shop fat city records and the label grand central, mark worked with some of the worlds biggest artists going on to earn several platinumm discs with his work as one half of the highly respected production duo rae & christian. this project is a worlds first autobiography and album, the release is packaged as a gatefold 10 inch which opens out to the book held within. the 40 000 word book covers the author mark rae s journey through the music industry. it follows the creation and dissolution of fat city and grand central records, rae & christian and yesking. the underground club scenes of manchester, gang wars, success, failure, working with bobby womack, jay z and the pharcyde. the project has been supported by whosampled, dj magazine, vice and the tate modern. the artwork is exceptional featuring an historical montage throughout the inner gatefold sleeve. the music features guest vocals from tony d who was a big influence in the original grand central records sound, soul king pete simpson, multi instrumentalist shawn lee and kate rogers.

hailing from japan, iori wakasa is a name that has been gathering a great deal of hype over the past few years - and with good reason. having built up his skills as a majorly talented dj in tokyo spinning a wide range of sounds and styles, his reputation continues to grow at pace thanks to a string of amazing releases on labels such as highgrade and wirsindeins in recent years - not to mention strong support by some of the scenes biggest names. here he proves what all the fuss is about - a stunning three track ep on steve bugs dessous recordings. be there starts things off right - uber deep vibes throughout, with bubbling synths and spacey effects, all tied together by a hypnotic chandler-esque rhythm track. give me continues the vibe, deep and jazzy chords punctuate the shuffling rhythm and trippy vocal samples add a layer of wonkiness that will see this get a lot of attention. feel it dizzy strips things down a notch, a bass heavy dancefloor filler with dubbed out percussion, effects and vocals snippets. a triumphant ep from iori wakasa - truly one to watch.

after debuting on mr. gs phoenix g imprint in 2016 with the unfamiliar territory ep, jayson wynters makes an appearance on dba for this, his second release, backed by a kowton remix. jayson wynters is a dj that is able to combine many genres in one set and make it work. wynters was first known as a garage mc in birmingham, before rising to prominence in the city s underground radio and club scene, where he showcased an impressive knowledge of rare groove and house music. as he got older his taste for music began to mature, his collection began to grow, and he soon began to dj. using music as an outlet for expression, whether in the form of djing or having fun on some drum machines and synths, is one of the most defining features to wynters. he continues to fuel his passion by keeping an eye on the future rather than the past and striving to remain different.

luciano continue his newly launched basaec imprint with * saved & slaved*, a two-track release featuring collaboration with argenis brito. swiss-chilean producer and dj luciano has been at the forefront of underground electronic music for quite some time now, heading up the infamous cadenza imprint and releasing material for some of the industry’s leading labels such as perlon, desolat, cocoon and poker flat amongst many others. here we see luciano back on his recently launched basaec label, delivering some of his signature stripped-back, dynamic and emotive material ‘lost in lymbo’ takes the lead and sees luciano offer up a typically intricate twelve-minute excursion with subtly modulating and evolving percussion, spiralling synth swells, sporadic vocal chants and a smoothly unfolding aesthetic resulting in an archetypal and intriguing production from this forever forward-thinking artist. the latter half sees luciano paired with fellow cadenza artist argenis for ‘pato’s track’, stripping back the vibe to a raw cowbell and rim shot percussive-led state whilst lumpy subs, vocal murmurs and subtly unfolding flute like melodies ebb and flow throughout the composition.

ashley woz westlake is back with a nod to the sounds that have inspired him. moving away from the moodier melodies of his more recent writing, new tracks celsius and grain mark an exploration into some new techniques and sounds. feeling inspired after listening to some old bits from the great terrance parker and kerri chandler, woz loaded a 909 into his rytm and a vox, bongos and chords into a sampler with the intention of working on his workflow and having some fun. the end product was celsius which was quickly snapped up by lobster boy and left woz needing a second track for the release. he wanted to roll with the similar theme of giving his take on an older sound, so using the same workflow on the drum machine and sampler he wrote a track heavily inspired by his love for electro.

following the first chapter of andy mac sdiving birdseries, idle hands welcomes italian producer piezo into the fold with an ep that harks back to the smoky, dubwise ambience of some of the label s earliest releases. luca mucci was a bristol resident for a few years before returning to his native milan, carving out an identity for his piezo alias with a slew of dubstep-focused eps on labels such as artikal music and subaltern. while on an idle hands skirmish stateside and playing on ny radio, one of the kelly twins dropped lume and remarked on how idle it sounded, sparking the process that led to this record. you can sense a link the early kowton records on ep opener opeq, all monochromatic textures and taut, slow-stalking rhythms, but here those facets are interspersed with a unique melodic elegance that offsets the moody immersion of the track, eventually blooming out into an effervescent slice of slow-motion house music. novemiluano meanwhile displays muccis capabilities in handling broken beats, exercising a devastating restraint without compromising on presence or energy in crafting a stunning piece of meditative soundsystem music. pushing that foundational dub principle of space and minimalism even further, lume closes the record out in stunning style with an intimate, glacial stepper that champions minute detail as much as looming gaps in the sound. with a peppering of micro sampling atop a deathly bassweight march, its a finely pointed arrow aimed right at the heart of idle hands, and we couldn t be happier to be releasing it.

claremont 56 has always had close links with japan’s vibrant music scene, with founder paul ‘mudd’ murphy making annual trips for djing and live performances. it’s perhaps unsurprising, then, that the label’s latest limited-edition vinyl release comes from japanese outfit okinawa delays, a project founded by producer, dj and long-time friend of the label takeo.
some of you may already be familiar with okinawa delays thanks to 2016’s hana, a cover of a popular 1995 j-pop hit featuring original vocalist satoko ishimine. the singer is a well-known performer in her native japan, having released a number of acclaimed records on toshiba emi throughout the 1990s.

the third truelovesounds vinyl is coming from our friend alin crihan - bucharest/romania. the „grosso modo“ ep is an outstanding two tracker record which conveys some meaningful, compelling and ghostlike elements combined with its own groove and rythm. limited copies! 300 copies

madhouse number 2 sees kerri dropping his 4 track panic ep on us, released in 1992 the whole record sounds amazing today - as fresh as ever! driving, funky, stripped back and with that trademark kc drum programming get on up kicks things off with an intoxicating mix of all the above and some loopy, dubbed out sax.. this one is pure heads down late night business! insomnia again utilises some choice samples the eagle eared among you will no doubt spot, paired with epic piano stabs and a cavernous kick-drum, slamming! flip the record over for something wrong , a solid grooving, gospel-esque monster that hits hard, classic! finishing out the ep is the amazing love is over , undoubtedly inspired by the garage and zanzibar with it s nod to some classic cult killer disco jams that form the basis of the track, looping, raw and moving hard, one for the heads! rarely do you get such a well rounded ep of different versatile flavours, exactly the reason why kerri is rightfully a legend in dance music. essential stuff indeed. this is the one of the first of a series of official madhouse / kerri chandler reissues for 2017. every title has been remastered by kerri chandler himself, from all original sources and each reissue has been legitimately released in full conjunction with kerri and madhouse records. and, as if that wasn t enough, all the reissues will be coming in the classic madhouse records house bag. snoozing not advised!

south london house label giant records offers up its eighth release. after a chance meeting on a london bus grant and david got talking about house music and the result followed in david sending grant these two wicked cuts, which were signed immediately david beigers dream factory ep is ladened with twists and turns of cinematic tech funk two original cuts here from german born david surface and dream factory, the later coming with a remix from grant dell grants take on dream factory is a heavy blend of tribal work outs, shaka zulu chants and shouts with some heavy sub-bass to boot featuring excerpts from mutabarukas the poem.

during the last ice age glaciers slowly carved away the landscape creating mineral rich sediment. for hundreds of thousands of years melt water carried this fine-grained sediment downstream to parts of north america. in some areas strong winds carried this sediment and deposited it forming a network of ridges and dunes. these deposits of loose silty wind-blown, or aeolian, sediment are called loess. flash forward to the present, and the duo of clay emerson and ian pullman may seem to have gone the way of the glaciers and all but disappeared. instead, their signature loose aural silt has been slowly and methodically accumulating and now makes up their new full-length pocosin. others may have no point of reference and pocosin is a welcome introduction to the sound of loess, in a mere blink of an eye from when they began.

welcome to season five of the jazz jousters sessions. after four years of non stop album releases we thought we d take a few months time out to think and work out what we would do next this season. we decided to attempt another locations series since we are yet to take on some of the locations many of you have suggested via our updates pages and emails. so here we go...
mjm would like to present locations: usa, the vinyl and cassette edition as we continue to explore the sounds, influences and styles of jazz music in different regions of the world.
in this session we hear the result of each jouster as they each chose one or more jazz musicians from the united states and began to work with that sound and come up with an instrumental in their own style, just like in season four. however there was a twist, this time they were challenged to focus on jazz between the years of 1960 to 1969. see what you think of the outcome...

the always wonderful begin returns after a very balearic absence ! and what a return ! let s talk eases us in with some trademark begin style mid-tempo mellowness, as undulating melodic elements are carried straight to the beach on gently lolloping beats aight adds a little more anticipation, with a syncopated backbone and some mesmerising carl craig style synth cycles... on the b, the cut the paste is a burly, new beat inspired chugger, which manages to sound exactly like an early morning, strobe-lit boccaccio moment, while simultaneously basking in the midday sun

danilo braca (danyb) arrived in brooklyn from his native rome in 2011 playing around town, running sound at the output events & slowly allowing these edits - informed by many years working the floors across europe - to evolve on and off the dancefloors of new york city busted vol. 2 continues the journey with a fine foot-stompin slap bass jam, followed by a foot-workin & vibe heavy jazz funker. the b side gives us some top drawer psychedelic soul and another awesome cosmic cut that wraps up a package of the finest obscure floor-shakers around one hell of a 12- ladies & gentlemen !

new artist gert p loads up his debut 12- for earwiggle ! earwiggle is the techno label from sunil sharpe a new artist on earwiggle, gert p loads up his debut 12-. harking back to the glory days of german/dutch hardcore techno - gert explores this sound in a modern context, recalibrating to a more regular tempo, and zoning in on some of the key ingredients. hoovers, barking dogs and raw acid are put through their paces over four tracks that move from dark ( takke ) to happy ( loopjongen ). for fans of the mover / pcp, dj gizmo, k.n.o.r. records and more. hakke!

mihai popoviciu has carved out a reputation for being one of the most innovative producers of electronic music active in europe today. the man from romania has established himself both as a highly respected producer releasing on labels such as highgrade, international gigolo and dessous and as a killer dj performing all over the world. fiction is his 4th release on poker flat recordings, and delivers four distinct flavours to sink your teeth into. i should is a slinky groover, with a slippery, evolving bassline, tight, funky percussion and a sultry female vocal. working just as effectively early in a set as a peak time moment, its bound to get rinsed in the coming months. twisted is a little harder - a straighter beat signals a more heads down approach, and the bassline is sure to trigger some dancefloor scenes wherever it gets played. next up is title track fiction which perhaps makes a reference to mihai’s background, with fragments of eastern european melodies woven into the beautiful synth work, all tied together over a spacey yet driving rhythm track. last but by no means least is interconnected - a straight up deep bomb with echoes of classic chicago deep and acidic house in its warm and sensual vibe.
